Before & Aftercare

Before & aftercare for Laser hair removal, IPL Skin rejuvenation and ResurFX treatments

If you are thinking of having laser hair removal, IPL skin rejuvenation or ResurFX treatment, it’s important that you know what to do before and after your treatment.

  • Avoid the sun 4-6 weeks before and after treatment. We cannot treat tanned skin as it could result in a burn.
  • If you have a history of cold sores, prophylactic medication may be used 7 days prior to treatment and continued for 7 days after treatment.
  • Do not use self-tanning products or skin colouring products within 5 weeks before treatment and during treatments.
  • Do not wax, pluck, tweeze, thread or use depilatory creams or electrolysis for a 30-day period prior to your first laser treatment and throughout the entire course of laser hair removal treatments. Only shave the hair.
  • Do not bleach the hair within 6 weeks prior to treatment and throughout the course of treatments.
  • Do not apply gels, oils, deodorants or perfumes to the area to be treated 12 hours before treatment.
  • Do not take Nurofen or Ibuprofen on the day of your treatment. Please inform your practitioner of any medication prescribed or over-the-counter, taken prior to and on the day of your treatment.
  • Wear lose clothing to prevent friction in the treated area.
  • Do not use any other glycolic or chemical peels on treated areas within a 30-day period and throughout the entire course of treatments.
  • 1-Day pre treatment, perform a close shave to limit skin dryness/irritation.
  • Exfoliate the area to be treated a week before treatment.
  • Stop using AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids, i.e. glycolic and lactic acids) and BHA (beta hydroxy/salicylic acid) and Retinol creams for 7 days before and after treatment.
  • Immediately after the treatment there may be side effects like redness, itching, swollen follicles, lumps, swelling and some tingling in the treatment area. This may feel like sunburn. It’s completely normal and should settle over the next few days.
  • The application of cool packs or cold flannels during the first few hours after treatment will reduce any discomfort. Don’t put ice packs in direct contact with skin.
  • The application of Biafine Emulsion Hydratante or Aloe Vera gel can be continued at home.
  • No sun exposure or sun beds for a minimum of 4 weeks after treatment.
  • You must use a broad spectrum sun protection factor of at least SPF 30 daily on the face. The SPF in moisturisers and foundation is not enough. You must use an SPF of at least 30 for a minimum of 4 weeks after treatment on all exposed body areas.
  • Do not use fake tan or skin colouring products between treatments.
  • No make-up for 48 hours. After 2-3 days mineral make up may be applied if skin has calmed.
  • Avoid swimming for 48 hours.
  • No gym or other heat generating exercise for 48 hours. Sweat and friction / rubbing can cause skin aggravation.
  • No saunas, no steam room, no hot baths / showers for 48 hours.
  • No perfumes, deodorants, gels, oils or other highly scented products for 48 hours after treatment.
  • Do not use any other glycolic or chemical peels on treated areas throughout the entire course of treatments.
  • Do not touch, pick or scratch the treated area.
  • Wear lose clothing to prevent friction and rubbing which can aggravate the treated area.
  • Do not wax, pluck, tweeze or use depilatory creams or electrolysis in between laser treatments. Only shave the hair.
  • You may shave the area after 48 hours.
  • When having ResurFX treatments – cleanse the skin with a gentle cleanser and muslin cloth to avoid a build-up of products in the micro channels which can lead to milia forming.
  • Stop using AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids, i.e. glycolic and lactic acids) and BHA (beta hydroxy/salicylic acid) and Retinol creams for 7 days before and after treatment.
  • Avoid using any exfoliants for 7 days after treatment.
